And why was it Forza 4?

Kinja'd!!!

I mean we have Forza 7, with its high detail graphics, hundreds of cars, loads of tracks, with variants of just about each one, varying weather, day and night racing. Why do people look back on Forza 4 with such longing? I mean we even have the open world of Horizon, where you can go anywhere, do just about anything you could dream of in a racing game. Are we looking back with rose tinted glasses, or was it really the perfect game?

Well fear not, because Forza Motorsport 4 MAY be coming to backwards compatibility, so we will be able to really see whether this game was perfect.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Personally, I think the game was great, especially when you compare it to Forza 5, which was a rush job, and a complete dumpster fire. I’ve tried to go back and play it a few times, and just can’t. So I figure most of the perception that the game is so amazing comes because what was after was hot garbage.

Anyone else hoping it actually comes to backwards compatibility?

The best Forza is the first one that became available on PC :o)

Was Apex really that good?

Haha

I never played it, I’m sure my computer could handle it just fine, but I haven’t really heard anything about it, good or bad.

Forza 4 was great. Good selection of cars and tracks, improved graphics and UI over 2 and 3, and it introduced the turn scoring system and Forzavista which was voiced by Jezza himself.

Forza four was the peak since it was the last genuely hard one;

5,6,7... all of then give you too much stuff too soon, and it makes 911 seem worthless

I think that’s a fair assessment, I never really played 4, I never took it seriously and just spent my time messing around with cars and playing online occasionally with friends.

If it lands on the backwards compatibility section I’ll definitely play it and see how it goes.

For me it’s the track list from 3 and car list from 4. That’s the perfect Forza.

You mention that 4 was seen as good because 5 was garbage. but 3 had really bad online( UI, bad player interactions, undesired game play modes, and confusing waiting lobby with long matching and load times.)

4 was at the tail end of the Xbox 360 so lots of people had 1. when 5 came the majority of people couldn’t afford to go buy a One, so 5 never had the player base either.

4 just had the right cars and you could then also build more accurate true race cars, adding headlight covers to a lot of the older cars made it much more authentic to run vintage series. The driving and braking was much more predictable to get clean consistent laps. I have yet to figure out how to set up brakes on 6 or 7 and my muscle memory braking zones from 4 have me flying off the track or coming to a stop on the same tracks in 6 and 7. While the addition of open wheel, night and wet modes is great. the drivitar ai is the dumbest thing ever. I don't want online style everyone crashes in the first turn ai when playing single player.

I’m actually opposite on that. I think Forza 4 is best because it’s the last genuinely fun and easygoing one. The newer ones are way too technical for me to just sip a beer and enjoy with or without friends. The Oppo races on there were the funnest I’ve had with the game.

4 was also the last to have proper Porsche cars in it until 7, and even though that was all Porsche I’m showing my bias.

Not sure if it is just picture mode, or what, but the graphics seem to hold up alright on this game.

I actually like the Drivatar in 7, in Horizon its terrible, in the motorsport games it seems to do alright, I just have aggression turned off on them and they seem to be competent.

And I get the braking zone things, I struggle to figure out where to brake without the driving line on at least for brakes. Maybe some day I’ll get used to it, but for now I’ll deal with it.

It really does hold up well. 7 does look better, though it’s hard to say it was a “ better” game.

Forza 4 was the last game where they didn’t take everything so seriously. So while the engine swaps were limited to internal corporate options within a brand, you could still have loads of fun putting a 994HP Aussie racing V8 into an 05 Focus ST and leave it FWD just to have a laugh when you hit 220 MPH down the old Mulsanne straight.

Or making a ton of shitty Euro-boxes into RWD spec racers. All the newer games have focused on modern hypercars, racecar, and the occasional old classic. FM4 had a great selection of basic transportation econo-boxes that were far better than they had any right to be when one threw parts at them.

And the grip model was far less refined so drifting was cake. From 5 onward they’ve made their physics models more realistic, but lost some of the simple fun of driving.

Also Tsukuba, Mt Fuji, all those fake tracks set in Spain, and the one on the Italian coast are fantastic.

4 was what converted me from PS3/4 and the Gran Turismo series over to Xbox. The Forza 6 Edition of the Xbone was the selling point over buying a PS4 and waiting on Gran Turismo. I found the braking to be easier to tweak on 4 over 5-7. Also, the career mode in 4 was preferable over the rest of the series because you got to choose different race series every race. I find myself getting bored racing the same car in the “80's Japanese Monsters” series for 6 straight races. In 4, you can bounce around series in different vehicles. My biggest thing I look for in these series is the updated car collections. I’ll buy the latest edition just so I could rip around in the new Demon.

Forza 4 was great, and also the last you could play in multi-monitor mode. I eventually built a triple screen setup (when used consoles got cheap) along with my PC rig and it was awesome.

Also, the return of Porsche via DLC just doubled the greatness.
